McEwen First Baptist Church

Our History:

The story of McEwen First Baptist Church begins in October of 1903, during a week long revival being held by Baptists from the Tennessee State Mission Board at an old school building in the town.  During the meeting, on Wednesday October 21, 1903, Reverend W.C. Golden of the Tennessee State Mission Board proposed the organization of a Baptist Church in McEwen and called all those who wished to participate to come forward.  Seventeen Christian men and women stepped forward and the First Baptist Church of McEwen, Tennessee was born.

Construction began immediately on a Church building, which was built at the current location of the Church and only a few hundred feet from where the revival services were once held.  The wood-frame structure was completed in 1904 and the Church began to grow in membership.

The current Church building was erected in 1948 in place of the old building to provide more room for services and classrooms.  A vestibule and four additional classrooms were added onto this building in 1983 to accomodate further growth.

Most recently in 2004 the Church has completed a new Fellowship Hall and Education Building adjoining the main building.  Special meetings, classes, and meals are often held in this building which has become an invaluable part of the ministry of the Church.

The success of McEwen First Baptist Church is not something that any of its members can take credit for, because the credit belongs to the Lord who makes all good things possible.  The Lord is continuing to work in His Church here in McEwen, Tennessee.  It is an exciting time for all who choose to be a part of what God is doing here, as the Church continues to grow for God's glory!

Our Beliefs:

McEwen First Baptist Church is a Bible-believing, Christ-centered assembly that sees reaching the lost as a mandate, helping the hurting as a responsibility, and glorifying the Lord Jesus as a priority.

We are a member Church of the Southern Baptist Convention, through which we cooperate with our sister Churches to further the work of missions at home and abroad.  As a Southern Baptist Church we stand in agreement with our sister Churches on the basic fundamentals of our faith, which are described in the
2000 Baptist Faith and Message.

Above all else, we believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and that He was born of a virgin; He lived a sinless life; He died a sacrifiicial death; He physically rose again from the dead; He visibly ascended to Heaven; and He will return again someday soon to rule as King of Kings and Lord of Lords.  We believe that Jesus Christ is the only source of salvation and that salvation only comes through having faith in Him.  We believe that these are not man's opinions, but the clear teaching of God's inspired, inerrant Word, the Holy Bible.
